Hydrogen is Shopify’s React-based framework for building custom storefronts on top of the Storefront API — the toolkit developers reach for when a themed storefront isn’t flexible enough and the project needs a fully custom, code-first frontend. Items here cover Hydrogen releases and changes to the framework itself, not general React news.

Checkout covers Shopify’s checkout platform — checkout extensibility (UI extensions and Shopify Functions that customize behavior without forking checkout), migrations off the deprecated checkout.liquid, and changes to the hosted checkout flow itself. Storefront API covers the customer-facing GraphQL API that headless storefronts — Hydrogen included — use to read product, collection, and cart data. Where Admin/GraphQL API is about managing a shop from behind the scenes, this is the API a shopper-facing frontend actually calls.

AI & Agents tags items about AI agents and agentic workflows as they intersect with Shopify and commerce — from AI-assisted development tooling to agentic shopping and automation built on top of the platform’s APIs. Like CLI & Tooling above, this is a cross-cutting tag rather than the same thing as the AI + Shopify section: an AI & Agents item can land in any of the three sections depending on where it was published.

Performance covers site speed on Shopify — Core Web Vitals, Lighthouse scores, and the theme- or Hydrogen-specific techniques for keeping a storefront fast as it grows more complex.

Markets/Intl covers Shopify Markets and the broader work of selling across borders — multi-currency pricing, localized storefronts, translated content, and the logistics of running one shop across multiple countries and languages.
